Eklund: Preds in “best position” to make a move
Hockey blogger Eklund says the Preds are primed for a big move now that the new ownership group has been approved by the league:
The team in the best position of all teams going into the deadline. Solid young players, valuable expendable prospects, tons of cap space that the ownership group has said they will spend. If Nashville is close they could add a Hossa and a Sundin. Not that they will, but they definitely could. Plus the fans are going to expect a lot from these owners and Poile is a genius.
Eklund and new owner David Freeman agree on one thing: Team general manager David Poile is fantastic. I wholeheartedly concur, and I’m thrilled that he’s leading Nashville’s hockey operations. He’s also a class-act as a person, and that’s an excellent and extraordinary combination in professional sports.
Smooth sailing so far for Vandy hoops
The Vanderbilt men’s basketball team is quietly working its way into the Top 25. The Commodores improved to 7-0 by defeating Georgia Tech this afternoon. This is a welcome development following a bittersweet football season, one in which Vandy showed significant improvement in its play but left several victories on the field. Coming only a few days after the consistently strong Vandy women downed #10 Duke, it’s been a good week on West End.
