Comcast doesn’t mess around with service outage

Comcast may have plenty of issues with its customer service, but it doesn’t mess around when it has a service outage. I noticed that my home Internet access was down around 5:30 this morning, naturally on a rare day when I needed to work at home for a few hours. A Comcast truck was already across the street assessing the situation, and by 6:00, it had company: Six more trucks (above) arrived to reestablish service. By 7:00, they had succeeded. Now if Comcast can only translate this responsiveness to its call centers. The next time you have trouble getting what you need from Comcast, try contacting ComcastCares on Twitter.

Tennessee ranks high, U.S. ranks low in internet speed

Tennessee ranks 17th nationally in terms of the average speed of its internet access, according to the Communications Workers of America’s speedmatters.org Web site. Tennessee moved up three spots from its 2007 ranking, but globally the U.S. still lags far behind many other industrialized nations with the 15th fastest average connections. Japan leads all nations with blistering speeds (10 times what are considered fast connections here) that I’m not sure we’d know what to do with here in America. Wow.

My internet connection at home is much faster this year than last, primarily because the Buymore gave me better advice about a router and cable modem than Comcast did. I’m not surfing from Tokyo, but I’m not complaining now, either.
